Navy PRT Standards

Every push-up, plank and run score by age and sex, plus what changed when the Physical Readiness Program was rewritten in January 2026.

Unofficial reference — verify against the instruction before acting on it.

The short version

Check your numbers against the source before you train to them. These tables are transcribed directly from OPNAV PRP Guide-5A (December 2025) and are reproduced here for convenience. Standards change, and since January 2026 a third failure in four years starts an administrative separation. Your Command Fitness Leader and the current Guide-5A are the authority, not this page.

The score tables

Pick your sex, age group and altitude. Every published standard is on this page — 44 tables in total, covering both altitude bands.

Males, age 25-29 years — altitude below 5,000 ft

Probationary is the pass line. Anything below it is a failure for that modality.

How scoring works

Each modality earns points from 100 down to 45. The categories map to percentile performance:

CategoryPointsWhat it means
Outstanding100–90At or above the top 10th percentile
Excellent85–75Top 25th percentile, below Outstanding
Good70–60At or better than the lowest 25th percentile
Satisfactory55–50Bottom 25th percentile, above the lowest 10th
Probationary45The pass line
Failure—Lowest 10th percentile

Your overall PRT score is the category matching the average of the points you earn across the modalities you take. A pass requires Probationary or higher on every one of them — a single failed modality fails the PRT regardless of how strong the others were. Guide-5A, Dec 2025

What changed in January 2026

NAVADMIN 264/25 announced OPNAVINST 6110.1L, and the changes took effect in January 2026. If you are reading advice written before then, assume it is out of date.

NAVADMIN 264/25 fact sheet, Dec 2025

Body composition

The BCA was rewritten and now runs in two steps, the first of which is sex neutral:

  1. Height, weight and waist are measured on every Sailor.
  2. Step 1 — waist-to-height ratio, applied the same way regardless of sex.
  3. Step 2 — body composition calculated with Navy equations that are sex normed.

Sailors outside BCA standards, or who miss PRT standards, are enrolled in the Fitness Enhancement Program. NAVADMIN 264/25 fact sheet, Dec 2025

Combat arms and the CFA

Sailors in combat arms professions take one PFA and one Combat Fitness Assessment each year rather than two PFAs. The designators covered are SEAL (113X, O23X, O26X), EOD (114X, 1190, 6480, M00A, M02A, M03A, M04X), SWCC (717X, O20A, O50A, O52X) and Fleet Diver (720X, M1DV, M2DV, MMDV).

The Combat Fitness Test is an 800m swim with fins, push-ups weighted with 20 pounds, pull-ups weighted with 20 pounds, and a one-mile run weighted with 20 pounds. Administrative action for CFA failures had not been published as of the December 2025 fact sheet. NAVADMIN 264/25 fact sheet, Dec 2025

Common questions

What is a passing PRT score?
You must score Probationary or higher on every modality you take. Probationary is 45 points; the overall PRT score is the category matching the average of the points you earn across the modalities.
How many push-ups do you need to pass the Navy PRT?
It depends on your age and sex. A male Sailor aged 25 to 29 needs 34 push-ups for Probationary; a female Sailor in the same bracket needs 13. Use the table above for your own bracket.
How long is the forearm plank on the Navy PRT?
The plank replaced curl-ups as the core event. The minimum time varies by age and sex — a male Sailor aged 25 to 29 needs 1:09 to reach Probationary, and 3:16 for a maximum score.
What happens if you fail the PFA?
Since January 2026, Sailors who fail three PFAs within a four-year period are processed for administrative separation and are ineligible for promotion, advancement, reenlistment or transfer until they pass. Failures before 1 January 2026 were reset to zero for those purposes. Sailors with 18 to 20 years of active service are not exempt.
How many PFAs are there each year?
Two cycles per calendar year. Cycle-1 runs 1 January to 30 June and Cycle-2 runs 1 July to 31 December. Active component, TAR and Reserve Sailors on orders of 12 months or more take two; drilling Reservists and those on shorter orders take at least one.
Can you use alternate cardio instead of the 1.5-mile run?
Where authorized, yes. Guide-5A carries standards for the 2-km row, the 500-yard swim and the 450-meter swim alongside the run, and the tables above include all of them. Treadmill and stationary bike are also authorized options.
Do the standards change at altitude?
Yes. Guide-5A publishes a separate set of standards for altitudes greater than 5,000 feet, with more generous cardio times. Both sets are on this page — switch the altitude selector above the table.
